The government-run mobile operator Teletalk Bangladesh Limited will provide internet bandwidth to the students of country’s public and private universities at nominal prices, to keep online educational activities going.
Students of 42 public and 68 private universities who are using Bangladesh Research and Education Network (BdREN) platform run by UGC, will get this facility, UGC said in a press release signed by Director Dr Shamsul Arefin of PRRI Division.
The students need to have Teletalk network with which they will get the facility in exchange of Tk 100 recharge per month, the release said, adding that the money for the recharge will be deposited to the accounts of the students.
This money will be spent for voice call and data, while unused credit will be carried forward in the next recharge, reads the release.
Earlier, on July 21, Bangladesh Research and Education Network (BdREN) sent letter to all mobile operators including Teletalk, requesting it to offer internet facility to university students free of cost.
On August 28 last, Teletalk, in response, gave consent to offter internet facility to the students at a very nomial cost.
