Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar has emphasized creating skilled programmers. According to him, in the future, the skilled programmers will not face unemployment in the country and abroad.
The minister made the remarks while addressing a webinar on ‘Job Opportunities and Challenges in the IT Sector’ organized by Atish Dipankar University of Science and Technology on Friday(25 june) night. At the same time, he emphasized the need for computer science education in science and technology universities.
He said that despite the shrinking global employment opportunities due to the Corona pandemic, the demand for skilled IT professionals is increasing both at home and abroad. Despite achieving unimaginable success in expanding digital services including digital infrastructure; progress in digital transformation in education is not as good as expected. To this end, there is no alternative to providing digital education from the primary level of education.
Md. Liaquat Ali Sikder, Chairman, Board of Trustees of Atish Dipankar University of Science and Technology presided over the ceremony. Nasim Akhter, Vice Chancellor of Chandpur University of Science and Technology, Dr. Hafiz Md. Hasan Babu, Professor, Dhaka University, Md. Nasir Uddin, Professor, Jagannath University and Ashraful Asad, Executive Engineer, Samson R&D delivered their speeches in the program.
The Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, mentioned Digital Bangladesh as an example of getting prepared for the Fourth Industrial Revolution or for the Digital Age and said, students need to be involved in computer programming and demonstrate innovation and creativity. Because it is essential to create digital skills to adapt the technology of the future, including artificial intelligence, robotics, IoT, blockchain and so on. In this case, not everyone need to be an expert but none can survive without a minimum of digital skills.
Liaquat Ali Sikder , while speaking as the Chairman of the meeting said that skilled human resources need to be created for the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Referring to the historic direction of the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications Mr. Mustafa Jabbar to introducing computer education from playgroup class, he said, “When we were young, we heard that Bangla language cannot be a language of computer and it will not be possible to use Bangla language on computer. But he has researched relentlessly sacrificing his personal life, professional life, financial life; and eventually, he has made Bangla, his mother tongue computer compatible.
Other speakers emphasized the need for playing necessary roles at the part of government as well as educational institutions in expanding digital technology based education. They believe that the new generation of Bangladesh is very talented. When they get the right environment, they will become skilled human resources. They said that the discussion would serve as a guideline in this regard.
