A six-member committee was formed to formulate a policy in this regard to ensure affordable medical facilities for DU students at different hospitals.
Members of the committee include: Prof Tofayel Ahmed, dean of science faculty; Prof Muhammad Abdul Moyeen, acting dean of business studies faculty; Prof Shahriar Nabi, dean of medicine faculty; Prof Syed Abdul Hamid of the Institute of Health Economics; and Prof Hasina Sheykh of the banking and insurance department.
Once implemented, 37,018 students of the university will receive medical services at different hospitals at affordable premiums.
The decision will also play an important role in the university achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and a good position in rankings, the meeting observed.
It also directed the departments to determine how to achieve 17 goals and 169 targets of SDGs and submit the suggestions to the office of the registrar by June 30.
Medical insurance is mandatory prior to enrolment to US and European universities.
The meeting also requested that necessary steps be taken to conduct online classes for continuation of academic activities.
Deans and directors of the different faculties and institutes were asked to write to the registrar stating their limitations and what they needed to arrange online classes.
It will be easier to assess the limitations and necessities after starting online-based academic activities, the meeting noted.
It was also decided that the departments and institutes will fix the number of student intake considering their capacity and need to ensure quality education.
