Posts and Telecommunications Minister Mustafa Jabbar said Bangladesh Post Office (BPO) is taking full-fledged preparation to help marginal farmers in selling their products offering free transportation.
“BPO has taken this initiative to help the farmers to get fair price of their products,” said the minister while the opening free of cost mango transportation service from Chapainawabganj through video conference, said an official press release.On May 9, BPO has launched Krishak Bondhu Postal Service (KBPS) with the aim of free transportation of agriculture products of marginal farmers into the wholesale markets of capital city onslaught of deadly COVID-19 pandemic.
As part of this campaign, BPO has already extended services to the farmers of Khagrachhari, Rajshahi and Manikganj apart from Chapainawabganj. “Farmers can sell their product at fair prices without any middleman through this service and also receive money digitally staying at home,” said the minister.
He said it would not require any additional expenditure of government as BPO’s Dhaka returnee vehicles, which are being commissioned for transporting postal services across the country, would be engaged in this service.
Posts and telecommunication division secretary Md Nur-Ur-Rahman, BPO director general SS Bhadra and BPO’s Rajshahi post master general Md Shafikul Alam also spoke with Chapainawabganj deputy commissioner A Z M Nurul Huq in the chair.
