Denmark has expressed her keen interest to support Bangladesh in her mission to provide internet connectivity to the Islands, Beels & Hoars of Bangladesh.
Ambassador to Denmark Winie Estrup Petersen expressed this interest to Minister of State for Information and Technology of Bangladesh Zunaid Ahmed Palak in a bilateral meeting held at ICT Tower on Thursday night.
Executive Editor of Bangladesh Computer Council, Parthapratim Deb was also present at this meeting.
“Digitalizing Islands, Beels & Hoars” was one of the major topics In this bilateral meeting, informed Palak.
As stated by the state minister, some scopes including the project have been discussed at this meeting like establishing wifi connectivity to remote Islands and Haor areas, through Backhaul submarine optical fiber connectivity to selected Islands and Haor districts.
Last mileage connectivity from the Union level to a selected number of villages, where connectivity to the Union level is lacking fiber connection and redundancy, will be considered under this project. Primarily schools, local government administrations, market areas will be connected in this manner.
The “Digitalization Islands, Beel & Hoar” project will include Haor districts: Sunamganj, Habiganj, Netrokona, Kishoreganj along with the Islands of Sandwip, Bhola, Hatiya, Manpura, Kutubdia, and other coastal areas. The deployment of optic fiber backhaul will also facilitate Sylhet to Sunamganj and Netrokona as Palak described.
