Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has inaugurated two newly procured aircraft–‘Akash Tori’ and ‘Sweth Balaka’–which have recently joined the Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ fleet.
The two new Dash 8-400 aircraft were formally inaugurated at a function at VVIP Terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Sunday morning. The premier attended the event through videoconferencing from her official Ganabhaban residence.
The premier has named the two new aircraft like the other new aircraft which have already been added to the Biman’s fleet.
The aircrafts are the 2nd and 3rd one purchased on the basis of a G2G (government to government) agreement between Bangladesh and Canada governments.
The national flag carrier received the Dash 8-400 aircraft from De Haviland Canada, a prominent aircraft-maker of the North American country.
It is learnt that the Dash 8-400 aircraft are equipped with eco-friendly and state-of-the-art facilities. The aircraft are equipped with HEPA filter technology that completely purifies the air inside the aircraft by destroying bacteria, viruses and other germs in just four minutes. The first Dash 8-400 aircraft arrived in Dhaka on November 24 last.
With the addition of the two new Dash planes, the number of Biman’s aircraft has increased to 21, including four Boeing 777-300ER, four Boeing 787-8, two Boeing 787-9, six Boeing 737 and three Dash 8-400.
