The National Museum of Science and Technology organized the Environment Olympiad to raise environmental awareness. More than 200 students took part in the Olympiad held on Tuesday in collaboration with the Science Club of Jahangirnagar University.
The prizes were awarded in 3 categories: Md. Shahanul Islam of Dhaka University in Poster Presentation Competition, Abdul Khaled of MIST in Project Showcasing Competition, Somaiya Rahman of Holycross College in School Quiz Competition, Md. Muizul Haque Azad of Radio Colony School and Fatema of Jahangirnagar University.
Mohammad Munir Chowdhury, Director General of the National Museum of Science and Technology, said, “The environment has been polluted by plastic and polythene waste. Waterlogging is happening due to low rainfall. We need to rid our homes and workplaces of the curse of waste. It is the moral duty of the students to keep the educational institution waste-free. It is the duty of the citizens to maintain environmental etiquette.”
Dr. Kabirul Basar, Professor, Department of Zoology, Jahangirnagar University and Dr. Md. Shahedur Rahman, Professor, Department of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering spoke on the occasion as special guests.
An environmental memoir was unveiled at the end of the ceremony.
