As the number of coronavirus infections and deaths are increasing by leaps and bounds, the decision on extending or lifting countrywide ongoing restrictions will be taken on Tuesday.
The decision will be taken at an inter-ministerial virtual meeting on Covid-19 situation with Liberation War Affair Minister AKM Mozammel Haque at 11:00am.
In this regard, the Cabinet Division on Monday issued letter to authorities concerned including some cabinet members, secretaries, inspector general of police, directorate general of health and director of Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) to attend the meeting on the day.
On Saturday, State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain said that there has been no decision yet on the extension of the ongoing lockdown that will expire on August 5.
“We have received recommendations from various quarters, including the DGHS, to extend the lockdown. But other alternatives are also being considered to contain the Covid-19 spread,” he said.
He said the Prime Minister is yet to give any directive on the ongoing lockdown as it is going to expire on August 5 but the government’s decision will depend on the overall Covid-19 situation in the country.
The DGHS suggested the ongoing stringent lockdown for extension after August 5 for at least 10 days otherwise the situation will be worsened.
