The Bangladesh University Grants Commission has taken necessary steps to implement the government’s decision to increase research and innovation activities in all the universities of the country to meet the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. To this end, a specialized laboratory/research cell will be set up in each university.
The UGC convened a meeting on Thursday through a Virtual platform to decide on planning and implementation steps to address the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The meeting highlighted various aspects of the decision taken by the Cabinet Division. It may be mentioned that UGC formed a committee of 09 members to implement the decision taken by the cabinet division.
Committee convener and UGC member Professor Md. Sajjad Hossain, a member of the commission chaired the meeting. Biswajit Chanda, Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Satya Prasad Majumder, BRAC University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Vincent Chang, UGC Secretary (Additional Responsibilities) Dr. Ferdous Zaman, Director of Research Support and Publications Kamal Hossain, Director (Additional Responsibilities) of IMCT Division Mohammad Makshudur Rahman Bhuiyan, Deputy Director of SPQA Division Vishnu Mallick were connected virtually.
“Timely plans will be adopted and implemented in the field of higher education to meet the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution”, said Professor Sajjad Hossain at the meeting. In addition, the UGC will take the necessary steps to implement the decisions of the Cabinet Division. The government will coordinate with various initiatives related to the Fourth Industrial Revolution and plan implementation initiatives.
He further said that the Ministry of Education, UGC and FBCCI will take concerted initiatives to determine the inter-communication between universities and industrial institutions to meet the future demand of the industry in knowledge and skills.
It may be mentioned that UGC has decided to organize an international conference on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the fourth industrial revolution on December 9-11.
