The government has decided to turn the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB) into 2,000-bed isolation unit for corona patients, Health Minister Zahid Maleque said.
He was addressing an online bulletin on coronavirus updates across the country on Thursday.Earlier, Bashundhara Group’s proposal to set up the country’s largest hospital for corona patients was accepted by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The premier gave the go-ahead after Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan sent a written proposal to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), for the makeshift hospital.
Later, Managing Director of Bashundhara Group Sayem Sobhan Anvir formally delivered the proposal to Prime Minister’s Principal Secretary Dr Ahmed Kaikaus at the PMO.
Bashundhara Group has dedicated a trade centre spreading over 1,50,000 sqft area and four convention centres with 90,000 sqft to the cause of corona patients.
High officials of the health ministry and armed forces division visited the proposed site and expressed satisfaction with the facilities.
